ART EDUCATION REPORT


KATHAKALI


Kathakali  is the classical dance art form of the kerala .the traditional themes of the kathakali are folk mythologies ,religious legends and spiritual ideas from the hindu epics and the puranas.


As a part of art education our college Fathima memorial training college decided to conduct a kathakali performance by kalamandalam Rajeev and his associates on 24 th August 2017. the programme began at 10.00am ,with a welcome speech by professor Ambili. the programme inagurated by our principal Dr Anitha .


kathakali performance is a major social event .they generally start at dusk and go through out the night .kathakali is usually performed only by men .female charecters are portrayed by men dressed in women costume .however in recent years women have started to become kathakali dancers
 


The term kathakali is derived from the words katha and kali .katha means story or a conversation or a traditional tale and kali which means performance and art . kathakali is structured  around plays called attakatha written in sanskritized malayalam . these plays are written in a particular format that helps identify the action and the dialouge part of the performance .the shloka part is the metrical verse , written in third person , often entirely  in sanskrit describing the action part of the choreography . the pada part contains the dialouge part
